Simulated Work Experience

  • INTRODUCTION

In this Simulated Work Experience, my main work was in the pre-production, mainly responsible for the creation and drawing of the storyboard. I mainly serve two groups. The first group is the design of storyboard and lens, and the second group is the design of the middle frame of the storyboard (the scene in which two main characters appear together).

  • Work in the first group

In this group, year2 students gave me work mainly on the lens design and storyboard drawing of the first 15s of animatic.

In this work, I used a lot of low-angle shots and close-ups in order to create a sense of mystery and suspense.

Firstly, in the first shot, I changed the foreground (cup) from real to virtual to lead to the background (protagonist in the study), and then the protagonist stopped learning to explain that she was not too interested in learning.

In the following shots, I used a lot of close-up shots. When the main object of the animation: “candy” appeared, I made the object always be in the center of the picture after it appeared. First, I used the close-up to set off the big and small relationship between the character and the candy (candy > character).

After that, I used a long shot, from the tabletop to the main character’s eyes, so that the candy was always in the center of the frame. This will lead to the next overlooking shot very well

After that I finished the work

  • Work in the second group

My main work in this group was to draw a key frame in which the two main characters appeared together. The main protagonist is a hunter and monster Wendigo

First of all, the scene was in the snow, and I needed to give a sense of mystery, so I used a large perspective and let the Windigo watch from a distance, as if he were hunting.

After that, I made two sketches.

For the second sketch I used a dead deer from one of the original storyboards

The year2 student chose the second one, so I started enriching the second sketch. But I didn’t have a lot of time, so I just stayed on the line draft.

  • Conclusion and Reflection

In this work, I think I learned a lot, mainly reflected in the use of the lens and enriched my understanding of the production process of the animation industry. I think I played my role well, but I also found many shortcomings, first of all, the use of the lens is too slow, and second, there are many aspects that can be improved in the design.
All in all, this is a very meaningful work.
